Explained quicly to Fernando AGUERRE president of the ISA in 1996 during the World Championships in California I specify it a little more here cause it seems to be a good idea either today...
TITLE: WORLD CUP OF NATIONS (DUKE CUP?)
FORMAT
The format of competition would take the exemple of the DAVIS Cup of
tennis: every affiliated country to the ISA presents a team and displaces
or receives in function of the same rules of alternance. Numbering of
points for the victory would also be identical: the first team who earns
3 victories goes through.
TEAMS COMPOSITION
1 SURFER MALE
1 SURFER FEMALE
1 BODYBOARDER MALE
1 BODYBORDEUSE FEMALE
1 LONGBOARDEUR (MALE OR FEMALE)
(Each victory gives 1 point for the team)
REGLEMENT And NOTATIONS
The rules of notations and the lengths of sets are to study in collaboration
with all the
representative structures of the surfing world but the central idea
would be of having heat of 40 to 60 minutes long with a jury of 2 times,
3 judges, who would note:
* 1st group: the wave, its exploitation and the harmony of it
* 2nd group: the level of difficulty, the variety of the presented
techniques.
No maximum of waves, usual priority and interference rules.
WHY SUCH A COMPETITION
Open to all: All the nations could participate and be classified
by groups of the same
manner that in the DAVIS Cup. The meetings would be thus levelheaded
and the level progressively
elevated. On the other hand she concerns the disciplines of wave most
popular of coeducational way.
Cheap: The reduced number of contestants permits a fast and
economical displacement.
Availability with regard to the conditions of surfing, to the sport's
calendar. Possibility of displacing
the energy and the means toward the medias. Good for our sport.
Simple: In avoiding the complexity of the usual competition
format it renders the surfing and its criterias more approachable for everybody.
It exploits the national aspect of the representatives in a very simple
formula of international meetings already known.
Representative: With its gentle structures and the important
margins of manoeuvre that
let such a formula, the different nations will present their best spots
with the best conditions and may be formulate some interesting tactical
choices for the suspens.
Different: When many of us desagree with the present evolution
of contest and notation it offers an alternative and a field for experiences
no negligible.
