Elections for the ISA Executive Committee were held at the ISA Biennial General Meeting on May 27, 2002 in Durban, South Africa. Congratulations to the newly elected EC of the ISA. This group is very capable and full of passion for the sport of surfing.

The Minutes for the ISA Biennial General Meeting and Annual General Meeting will be sent to the ISA NGB’s via email by the end of this month.

A special thank you goes to all the people who believed in the ISA and came through to make the WSG 2002 such a successful event: WSG Organizing Committee, the city of Durban, the WSG Sponsors and all the people who volunteered their time at this event.

The ISA also wishes to extend its thanks and appreciation to all the National Teams who participated in the Quiksilver ISA World Surfing Games, which took place May 24^th – June 2^nd, 2002 in Durban, "South Africa’s playground."

The Thames Water company in the UK has set up a website associated with WaterAid and will donate 150,000 pounds (which will provide safe drinking water for life to 6,000 people in Africa and Asia) if they have 2,000,000 visitors to the site in the following weeks.

There is no cost to those who visit this site. Every time you click the "click here" button on the Give Water website, their computers will record the click as a donation and you are sent to the Thank You page. All of the donations are paid fully by Thames Water (not the website visitor) and go directly to WaterAid.

WaterAid puts the donations towards its programs helping some of the world's poorest people establish their own sustainable, safe water supplies and sanitation systems in 15 countries in Africa and Asia.

Reminder: QUIKSILVER WORLD GROMMET TITLES 2002 (Sanctioned by ISA)

July 22^nd – 28^th, 2002; Narrabeen, Sydney, Australia

Invitations for the 2002 Quiksilver World Grommet Titles have been sent out via email. With the titles a little over a month a way, it is important that Surfing Australia receives final confirmations of attendance and payments over the next two weeks.

In this respect, please confirm if your association will be submitting a team or individuals and if so, forward relevant payment to Surfing Australia's account once your accommodation requirements are confirmed.

Final confirmations and payments must be received by June 30, 2002.

If sending a full team is not possible, NGBs should consider the sending of even a one-person team, if that is all the federation can afford. Rather than looking at the whole team cost and decline participation, look at the surfers with the most potential to improve / win an event and bring a smaller team. This will keep your participation going in International events, which is good for an NGB’s profile with their governments and will provide incentive for your nation’s best surfers.

Event: MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 24 – 26, 2002, FAE Beach in Salinas, Ecuador

With great success, this Masters Championship took place at the FAE Beach in Salinas; 3 days of beautiful sunshine and exceptional conditions made it possible for the event to go on until Sunday. The first rounds took place on Saturday with waves of 3 to 5 feet, allowing the 16 contestants to go to the second round. Sunday was a day of great surprise with waves from 5 to 8 feet. The semi-finalists really had to show great physical condition to surf these waves with much current. It was a real spectacle.

The prize of Aloha Spirit was given to the surfer Jimmy Santos for his long career in surfing.

Surfing Team Manager and Coach wanted for France 2004

Applications are invited from suitability qualified and experienced individuals for two of the most important positions in British Surfing. The successful applicants will cover all aspects of coaching and managing the team in the period leading up to and including the 2004 World Surfing Games which are due to be held in France. Event: GUL BRITISH MASTERS 2002

June 1 – 3, 2002, Newquay, England

Lee Bartlett wins this year’s senior division in the Gul British Master beating Jamie Owen who has won this contest for the last two years. Third was Chris Harris, who managed to find a little barrel in the final and fourth was Roger Knight. Lee Bartlett said "this is a great start to my surfing season I hope I can continue my form for the next event"

In other divisions, Jed Stone won the Veteran category yet again, however Roger Knight defeated him in the Masters. In the Womens, Tracy Boxall wins for the second year running. The bodyboarding division was decisively taken out by Lee Stephens. In the longboarding, British Champion Lee Ryan wins the Senior Longboard title with a stylish display of traditional surfing, however Adam Zervas became the champion in the Masters Longboard division.
